Furness R.A.M. Elevation

15th September 2017

The newest recruit to Furness Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No 375 is Harry Kilgour who is a member of Jubilee Mark Lodge.
Stuart Brackstone, Alan Jones, Harry Kilgour, Jim Richards and Ken Boon
Harry became a Mason in Warwick and, after his retirement as an Inspector with the Warwickshire Constabulary, he moved to the delightful Lake District town of Coniston. He became a joining member of Thurston Lodge No 2525 which now meets in Ulverston although it was originally based in Coniston.

Harry now runs his own business, Bluebird Tours, which specialises in conducting guided tours of the Lake District by minibus.

A committed Mason Harry is the secretary of Thurston Lodge and scribe of Thurston Chapter. He ascended to the chair of his mother craft lodge after having moved north but his dedication saw him an ever present at meetings in Warwick during his terms as WM and IPM.

The ceremony of elevation was very ably conducted by Ken Boon. Jim Richards assisted in explaining the signs whilst Alan Jones was on hand to present the working tools. Alan and Jim are, respectively, the proposer and seconder of Harry’s membership of Furness R.A.M.

It was a delightful, friendly and sincere ceremony enjoyed by those watching who included among their number the Provincial Grand Master’s special representative Stuart Brackstone.
Familiar landmarks to the south
The trip to Ulverston from my home requires a drive along the coastal A5087. It was a lovely clear early evening on the outward journey which afforded some glorious views across Morecambe Bay and the Furness area. Sometimes familiarity means we take for granted the beauty on our own doorsteps. Having my Box Brownie in the car I stopped to take a couple of snaps to illustrate my point.
